Mandarin Shadow (跟读) is a personal tool its owner uses to create Mandarin shadowing videos and publish them to their own YouTube channel, Instagram account and TikTok account. This page explains what data it handles.
Viewers
Watching videos on this site doesn't require an account. The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may remember a list of videos you opened and, for the owner, an owner key; both stay in your browser's local storage and are never sent to third parties.
Google and YouTube data
When the owner connects a YouTube channel, the app requests permission to:
- upload videos to that channel (youtube.upload),
- read the channel's name and the processing status of uploaded videos (youtube.readonly),
- create playlists and add uploaded videos to them (youtube).
The app stores only an OAuth refresh token, encrypted (AES-256-GCM), together with the channel name. It doesn't read, store or share any other YouTube or Google account data, and it never uses this data for advertising. The app's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. By using the YouTube integration you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service; see also the Google Privacy Policy.
Access can be removed at any time with Disconnect in Settings (which also revokes the token at Google) or at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Disconnecting deletes the stored token.
Instagram data
If an Instagram professional account is connected, the app stores an encrypted access token and the account's username, and uses them only to publish Reels to that account.
TikTok data
If a TikTok account is connected (with TikTok's user.info.basic and video.publish permissions), the app stores encrypted access and refresh tokens, the account's open id, username and display name, and uses them only to post videos the owner chooses to that account and to check their posting status. It doesn't read your other videos, followers or messages. Disconnecting revokes the token at TikTok and deletes it.
Generated content
Stories, illustrations, narration and videos are generated with AI services through the Vercel AI Gateway and stored on Vercel (Blob storage and, if enabled, a Postgres database listing the videos). No personal data is sent to these services. Deleting a video in the app removes its files.
Service providers
The app runs on Vercel. AI models are reached through the Vercel AI Gateway. Video publishing uses the YouTube Data API, the Instagram API and the TikTok Content Posting API.
