The Singing Washing Machine

昨天晚上，小李睡不着觉。

Zuótiān wǎnshang, Xiǎo Lǐ shuì bù zháo jiào.

Last night, Xiao Li could not fall asleep.

他听到洗手间里有歌声。

Tā tīngdào xǐshǒujiān lǐ yǒu gēshēng.

He heard singing in the bathroom.

那声音很小，也很好听。

Nà shēngyīn hěn xiǎo, yě hěn hǎotīng.

The sound was soft and very pretty.

小李慢慢走进洗手间。

Xiǎo Lǐ mànmàn zǒujìn xǐshǒujiān.

Xiao Li slowly walked into the bathroom.

歌声是从洗衣机里来的！

Gēshēng shì cóng xǐyījī lǐ lái de!

The singing was coming from the washing machine!

他非常怕，马上回到了床上。

Tā fēicháng pà, mǎshàng huídào le chuáng shàng.

He was very scared and went right back to bed.

早上，小李很累。

Zǎoshang, Xiǎo Lǐ hěn lèi.

In the morning, Xiao Li was very tired.

他一边吃面包，一边想。

He ate bread and thought at the same time.

How can a washing machine sing?

他去问楼下的王奶奶。

Tā qù wèn lóuxià de Wáng nǎinai.

He went to ask Granny Wang downstairs.

王奶奶笑着说：“我没听过。”

Wáng nǎinai xiào zhe shuō: “Wǒ méi tīng guò.”

Granny Wang said with a smile, “I've never heard it.”

她说晚上想去他家看看。

Tā shuō wǎnshang xiǎng qù tā jiā kànkan.

She said she wanted to come see his home that night.

晚上，他们坐在洗手间里等。

Wǎnshang, tāmen zuò zài xǐshǒujiān lǐ děng.

At night, they sat in the bathroom and waited.

过了一会儿，歌声又来了。

Guò le yíhuìr, gēshēng yòu lái le.

After a while, the singing came again.

王奶奶说：“我们打开看看吧。”

Wáng nǎinai shuō: “Wǒmen dǎkāi kànkan ba.”

Granny Wang said, “Let's open it and see.”

里边有一只小鸟！

Lǐbian yǒu yì zhī Xiǎo Niǎo!

There was a little bird inside!

它正在衣服上唱歌。

Tā zhèngzài yīfu shàng chànggē.

It was singing on top of the clothes.

小李笑了，不怕了。

Xiǎo Lǐ xiào le, bú pà le.

Xiao Li laughed and was no longer scared.

小鸟是从窗户飞进来的。

Xiǎo Niǎo shì cóng chuānghu fēi jìnlái de.

The bird had flown in through the window.

它觉得洗衣机里很安静。

Tā juéde xǐyījī lǐ hěn ānjìng.

It felt the washing machine was very quiet.

王奶奶给它找了一个新家。

Wáng nǎinai gěi tā zhǎo le yí gè xīn jiā.

Granny Wang found it a new home.

现在小鸟住在院子里的树上。

Xiànzài Xiǎo Niǎo zhù zài yuànzi lǐ de shù shàng.

Now the bird lives in the tree in the yard.

每天晚上，大家都来听它唱歌。

Měi tiān wǎnshang, dàjiā dōu lái tīng tā chànggē.

Every evening, everyone comes to hear it sing.

小李睡得非常好。

Xiǎo Lǐ shuì de fēicháng hǎo.

Xiao Li sleeps very well.
